One must remember that special attention must be paid to trees being planted on to the South side and while planting the same one must make sure that trees on the southern exposure have to shade only a small angle of high summer sun and thus one must make sure that fast-growing, or columnar trees are planted in that direction.
One can use the Trignometry to find out the distance a tree should be planted from the wall as a tree which is 25 feet distant from a building must be over 50 feet tall to provide shade on the south side in summer. Thus if it is taking longer time to grow a tree that tall; than one can seek the help of Trignometry and can plant the said tree 10 feet from the building and to get the requisite shade the tree has to be only 25 feet tall. In summer one will require the trees on the western exposure to protect the house from the hot afternoon sun.
